About The Position

The Payroll Manager will administer EMSA’s payroll system, ensuring accurate and timely processing of biweekly payroll, managing timekeeping requirements, and maintaining precise labor hour records. This role involves overseeing the timekeeping process for compliance with federal and state laws, calculating payroll corrections and leave accrual adjustments, and troubleshooting, configuring, and maintaining the timekeeping platform. The manager will also conduct payroll audits, monitor timecards for accuracy, furnish payroll reports, and ensure correct calculation of payroll taxes, deductions, and withholdings. Additionally, this position will process and adjust garnishments, manage retirement contributions and loan activities, and audit benefit configurations for accurate general ledger reflection. The role requires punctuality, regular attendance, professionalism, effective communication, confidentiality, sound judgment, adaptability, and adherence to safety and compliance protocols. Other functions include maintaining compensation guidelines and pay practice documentation, performing administrative duties, and attending relevant product training. The position has supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Proven experience (three (3) years or more) as a payroll specialist or managing a timekeeping system with more than 200 employees.
  • Prior experience (three (3) years or more) with relevant payroll software (UKG preferred) is required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) is required.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background check and drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Payroll Lead, Supervisor, or Manager is strongly desired.
  • College degree preferred.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) strongly preferred; required within two (2) years of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Administer EMSA’s payroll system to ensure timekeeping requirements are met for biweekly payroll processing and accurate records of labor hours are kept.
  • Oversee EMSA’s timekeeping process to ensure continuity in practice and compliance with federal and state laws.
  • Calculate and process payroll corrections and leave accrual adjustments for current and retroactive pay periods.
  • Troubleshoot, configure, and maintain EMSA’s timekeeping platform.
  • Conduct payroll audits and monitor timecards to ensure accuracy in payroll processing, and furnish payroll reports to department leaders, as needed.
  • Ensure payroll taxes, deductions, and withholdings are calculated correctly for each team member.
  • Process and adjust garnishments in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Process and import timekeeping records into EMSA’s HRIS system.
  • Generate and upload NACHA files for payroll processing.
  • Work directly with team members to resolve timekeeping discrepancies or errors.
  • Manage retirement contributions and loan activities, including running activity reports, setting up deductions, uploading census data, and auditing records.
  • Audit benefit configurations to ensure accurate reflection in the general ledger.
  • Maintain and update as needed EMSA’s Compensation Guidelines and Pay Practice documentation.
  • Perform various administrative duties.
  • Attend all relevant product training for EMSA’s timekeeping platform.
  • Perform other job-related duties, functions, tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
