About The Position

Mitsubishi Chemical America, Inc. is seeking a Payroll Manager to lead their payroll team and operations in the U.S. and across the Americas. This role involves not just processing payroll but also leadership, compliance, technology optimization, and ensuring a seamless payroll experience. The manager will be hands-on in troubleshooting, leading upgrades, integrating new divisions, and evolving payroll systems. This is a highly visible, strategic role for a Workday Payroll expert with strong leadership skills and a passion for continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or related field preferred
• 5–7 years of progressive payroll experience
• At least 3+ years in management or supervisory roles
• Hands-on experience with Workday Payroll configuration (required)
• Strong understanding of multi-state payroll, payroll taxes, and compliance requirements
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data manipulation)
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills — able to work with stakeholders at every level
• Experience in leading payroll process improvements, audits, and system upgrades

Nice To Haves

• Payroll certifications (CPP or FPC) are a plus

Responsibilities

• Manage a team of up to five Payroll Specialists, providing coaching, training, and support.
• Oversee accurate, timely payroll processing for multiple states and entities, including expatriate and inpatriate payroll.
• Configure, optimize, and troubleshoot Workday Payroll, Absence, and Time Tracking modules.
• Manage payroll tax administration, state and local registrations, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Conduct audits, analyze processes, and recommend system enhancements.
• Partner with HR, Finance, Legal, and leadership teams to ensure payroll aligns with organizational goals.
• Lead payroll integration projects as new business divisions join the centralized Workday platform, including process conversion and data migration.
• Act as the go-to subject matter expert for payroll processes, policies, and system configurations.
