About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to join our accounting team based in Sunnyvale, CA. As the Payroll Manager, you will serve as the subject matter expert on all payroll operations and compliance matters. You will partner closely with HR, Finance, and Legal teams, as well as external auditors, to own the end-to-end payroll process, including equity compensation, commission payouts, and the strict enforcement of SOX controls and multi-state payroll regulations.

Requirements

  • 7+ years payroll experience with at least 3 years in a supervisory role, preferably in a public company.
  • Strong knowledge of California and multi-state payroll laws.
  • Familiarity with SOX requirements and public-company audit processes.
  • Familiarity with accounting for payroll, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Experience managing payroll for equity compensation and commissions.
  • Expertise in payroll systems (e.g., Paylocity, ADP) and equity platforms (e.g., Fidelity).
  • Experience with larger ERP systems (e.g., Netsuite)
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong data analysis capabilities.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with system implementations is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all payroll functions for U.S. employees, including semi-monthly and special payrolls.
  • Oversee equity-related payroll processing in partnership with the Stock Administration, Accounting and Legal teams.
  • Approve commission payrolls in alignment with plan documents.
  • Help oversee the Travel & Expense (T&E) process, including expense report review and policy compliance.
  • Assist with accounting for payroll, including the preparation of payroll journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, including federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
  • Maintain and enforce internal controls, segregation of duties, and SOX compliance.
  • Manage payroll system configurations and partner with HRIS/IT for enhancements.
  • Develop and maintain payroll policies and procedures.
  • Act as primary contact for payroll-related audits and provide necessary documentation.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop payroll staff; conduct performance reviews.
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and Legal on payroll-related projects and initiatives.
