About The Position

Reporting to the Senior Payroll Manager, the Payroll Lead will be responsible for processing company payroll in a timely and accurate manner while in accordance with company and government policies. This position is based in the Winnipeg or Edmonton office dependent on the selected candidate's place of residence.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years payroll experience processing the full payroll cycle
  • PCP designation and experience using an in-house payroll system are an asset
  • Efficient with Excel, have data processing skills and can effectively deal with confidential information
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, customer service oriented and a team player
  • Ability to manage a large volume of work and can consistently meet deadlines while ensuring high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities, capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Review hourly payroll verifying accuracy and looking for process improvements
  • Perform data validation on pay calculations for new hires, changes and terminations
  • Perform data validation on source deductions, benefits, and WCB
  • Review and resolve complex payroll issues, retroactive pay, corrections, and adjustments
  • Serve as primary trainer and mentor for new payroll administrators
  • Support payroll system testing, and updates related to collective agreement changes
  • Maintain payroll procedures, job aids, and training documentation
  • Ability to Interpret and apply collective agreements, payroll legislation, and organizational policies
  • Liaise with staff and management on payroll system related inquiries.
  • Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential
