About The Position

The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is seeking a hourly/wage Financial Payroll Administrator to provide critical administrative support to the payroll operations of both the DMV and Motor Vehicle Dealer Board (MVDB). This position is responsible for managing payroll-related inquiries, handling documentation, and assisting with the retrieval and organization of payroll data. The role requires precision, discretion, and excellent communication skills to uphold the integrity of payroll processes. This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits. The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, serves approximately 6.2 million licensed drivers and ID card holders with over 8.4 million registered vehicles. In addition, DMV serves a wide array of businesses, including dealers, fuels tax customers, rental companies, driving schools, other state agencies, local governments, and non-profit organizations. Requirements

  • Basic proficiency in office software such as Microsoft Office
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail
  • Effective written communication skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with the highest level of confidentiality and discretion
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Prior experience in payroll administration, human resources, or related administrative functions

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with payroll processing software and document management systems
  • Familiarity with state-specific payroll regulations and compliance requirements is a plus
