About The Position

Comfort Systems USA is seeking an experienced Payroll & Benefits Specialist to support payroll operations and benefits administration for a large, field-based workforce. This role goes beyond coordination—you’ll take ownership of payroll accuracy, benefits execution, and compliance across a multi-state organization. This is a key role for someone who thrives in a detail-driven environment, understands the complexities of payroll and benefits, and can operate confidently in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented setting. Requirements

  • 3–6+ years of payroll and benefits administration experience
  • Strong knowledge of payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance requirements
  • Experience processing multi-state payroll
  • Hands-on experience with payroll/HRIS systems (ADP, Workday, UKG, or similar)
  • Advanced attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or CEBS certification
  • Experience supporting construction, mechanical, or field-based workforces
  • Strong understanding of benefits vendors, 401(k) administration, and reporting

Responsibilities

  • Process weekly and/or biweekly payroll, ensuring accuracy across wages, deductions, and tax filings
  • Manage multi-state payroll compliance, including federal, state, and local regulations
  • Administer employee benefits programs including enrollments, life events, terminations, and vendor coordination
  • Reconcile payroll, benefits, and general ledger data in partnership with accounting
  • Serve as a subject matter resource for payroll and benefits-related questions
  • Support open enrollment planning, execution, and employee communication
  • Maintain and audit payroll and benefits records to ensure data integrity and compliance
  • Assist with internal and external audits, reporting, and system updates
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and increase efficiency
