About The Position

As a Payroll Associate, you will help ensure accurate and timely biweekly payroll processing for 4,000+ employees across a complex, multi-state environment. You will own significant portions of the payroll cycle, independently resolving complex payroll issues, strengthening controls and reconciliations, and ensuring payroll accuracy and compliance. You’ll partner closely with HR, Benefits, and Finance while serving as a payroll subject-matter resource for your peers. This role requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to operate independently with single-threaded ownership of your work from identification through resolution.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of payroll experience in a high-volume, multi-state environment, with strong knowledge of gross-to-net payroll concepts, timekeeping impacts, and multi-state compliance considerations.
  • Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, and data validation, and are comfortable analyzing and manipulating large datasets.
  • Hands-on experience with payroll and HRIS systems; experience with ADP Vantage, Workforce, and Workday is strongly preferred.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented, with demonstrated experience independently investigating complex payroll cases, identifying root causes, making sound decisions, and driving work through completion with limited supervision.
  • Communicate effectively across teams, provide strong employee support, maintain strict confidentiality, and consistently demonstrate a commitment to payroll accuracy, compliance, internal controls, and continuous improvement.
  • Comfortable learning and applying new technologies, including AI-enabled tools, to improve productivity and outcomes while maintaining appropriate controls and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Own significant portions of the biweekly payroll cycle, including pre-payroll audits, time and attendance validation, exception management, payroll validations, employee changes, and close activities.
  • Resolve complex payroll issues independently, including retroactive adjustments, multi-state taxation, timekeeping exceptions, benefit deduction discrepancies, and over- or underpayments, driving issues through resolution with clear documentation and follow-through.
  • Perform detailed payroll reconciliations and variance analyses, including earnings and deductions reviews, payroll register validation, and support for general ledger tie-outs, proactively identifying risks or discrepancies.
  • Partner with HR, Benefits, Finance, and other stakeholders to identify root causes, resolve systemic payroll issues, strengthen controls, support audits and year-end processing, and implement preventive process improvements.
  • Improve how payroll work gets done by maintaining SOPs, analyzing recurring errors, mentoring Payroll Associate I team members, and using payroll technology, Excel, and AI-enabled productivity tools where appropriate to improve efficiency, analysis, documentation, and accuracy.
