About The Position

Ryder is seeking a Payroll Associate II to join their team. This is a full-time, permanent position responsible for compiling and recording employee time and payroll data for the weekly payroll cycle. The role involves processing payroll, verifying data accuracy, reconciling payroll registers, ensuring internal controls are followed, and assisting with employee inquiries. The associate will also track employee vacation accruals, process vacation requests, and assist with special projects as needed. This is a remote position based in Canada.

Requirements

  • Must be based in Canada
  • Experience supporting Canadian payroll operations required
  • H.S. diploma/GED
  • One (1) year or more experience with payroll working knowledge
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office, Word, Excel, Outlook.; intermediate level.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll practices; intermediate level.
  • Working knowledge of Workday, HR/Payroll systems; Basic level required
  • Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Demonstrates a high level of accuracy, even under pressure.
  • Detailed oriented with excellent follow-up practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational/Professional diploma in accounting related studies preferred.
  • Vocational/Professional diploma in Payroll Compliance
  • Payroll certification through the National Payroll Institute (PCP/PLP) preferred
  • One (1) year or more experience in payroll processing for 1000+ employees preferred
  • 0 to One (1) year experience with multi-provincial payroll preferred
  • 0 to One (1) year experience in customer service preferred
  • Proficient in French written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Workday, HR/Payroll systems; intermediate level; preferred.
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (Upon Hire, preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the importing, balancing, and timely processing of weekly payroll via the various payroll time keeping systems
  • Verify received payroll data for accuracy, compliance and approvals; inform managers of any discrepancies which needs further clarification, adjustment, or approval
  • Reconcile and balance weekly processed payroll against payroll registers
  • Ensure internal payroll controls are adhered to - this includes, but is not limited to adhering to Ryder Internal Audit processes; where applicable, validating that overtime is being calculated properly; reviewing audit reports and researching high overtime hours; validating payroll batch files transferred between systems balance
  • Assist managers, employees, HR and locations with inquiries related to payroll
  • Perform payroll output verification and processing for weekly payroll cycle, which includes balancing the processed payroll, running various reports for distribution, preparing mail couriers to the locations and updating of internal departmental spreadsheets.
  • Track employee vacation accruals; process weekly vacation requests by recording of vacation days, confirming time is available and calculation of vacation earnings payout.
  • Follow up with location managers to sort out discrepancies.
  • Assist with special projects and backup for the other payroll cycles, as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned
