About The Position

Hypertec is seeking a Payroll and Benefits Specialist (contract) to join our Human Resources team in Montreal, Quebec. This role involves preparing and processing bi-weekly payroll for over 500 employees in Canada and the USA, supporting year-end tax form processing, and coordinating with various departments to ensure accurate and timely payroll. The specialist will also administer group medical and retirement benefits, handle employee inquiries, and provide guidance on payroll and timekeeping systems.

Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years experience with full-cycle payroll processing for Canadian employees. USA experience an asset
  • Proficient computer skills with Word, Outlook, and Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables)
  • Personal integrity when working with confidential information
  • Strong attention to detail and adaptability, with ability to process large volumes of data
  • Superior problem solving, multitasking, and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal & communication skills in French (verbal and written)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with UKG payroll system is an asset
  • Certification from the National Payroll Institute or ongoing is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll for 500+ hourly and salaried employees, in Canada and USA; manage off-cycles as needed
  • Support year-end processing of tax forms (T4, RL-1, and W-2s) and government declarations
  • Coordinate efforts between Payroll, HR, Finance and other departments to ensure employees are paid accurately, on time, and in accordance with government legislation
  • Review and validate timecard entries for hourly employees
  • Analyze custom reporting tools to review significant variances for accuracy
  • Process Records of Employment
  • Process and monitor garnishment orders and other special payments
  • Coordinate payments for CNESST files
  • Coordinate benefit premium payments for employees on leave of absence
  • Assist in managing various time off policies
  • Coordinate and administer group medical benefits and retirement (RRSP/DPSP) benefits, including enrollments, terminations, and monthly invoice reconciliations
  • Provide excellent customer service to employees by responding to general inquiries regarding payroll and benefits
  • Provide guidance and training to employees on payroll and timekeeping systems
