About The Position

The Town of Cochrane is seeking a temporary Payroll Administrator to join their Human Resources team for a 20-month term. This role is ideal for a decisive and professional individual who is passionate about ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance within a diverse, unionized workforce. Reporting to the Payroll Supervisor, the administrator will provide essential support for full-cycle payroll processing while maintaining the high standards of organizational policy and Canadian payroll legislation. Requirements

  • Post-secondary diploma in payroll, accounting, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a similar payroll or accounting role.
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting principles and payroll practices.
  • A working knowledge of how HRIS interfaces with payroll processing.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy while working in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with the capability to troubleshoot discrepancies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to maintain constructive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with absolute discretion.
  • Demonstrated tact and diplomacy when resolving customer concerns.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Familiarity with the Access to Information Act (ATIA).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working within a municipal government environment.
  • Direct experience with the Dayforce payroll system.
  • Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation, or active progress toward completion.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and process semi-monthly payroll for salaried, hourly, and unionized employees, as well as elected officials.
  • Gather, review, and input payroll data into the system to ensure accurate calculation and distribution.
  • Reconcile payroll general ledger accounts to maintain ongoing accuracy and balance.
  • Prepare and remit statutory deductions and third-party payments.
  • Support essential year-end activities, including the preparation and distribution of T4 and T4A slips.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll and benefits in a professional and timely manner.
  • Coordinate pay processes related to Short-Term Disability (STD), Long-Term Disability (LTD), and WCB.
  • Review and maintain employee accrual balances through regular audits and analysis.
  • Provide dedicated training and support to employees utilizing the Dayforce system.

Benefits

  • The salary for this position is between $44.04/hr and $48.33/hr and is based on a 35-hour work week.
