About The Position

The incumbent assists with the day-to-day operation of the payroll staff at the Territorial Headquarters of The Salvation Army and in providing support related to payroll programs for The Salvation Army divisions, units, and ministries. Requirements

  • Completion of a three‑year college diploma in Accounting or Finance; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of full‑cycle payroll experience, including work in a unionized payroll environment across Canada.
  • Demonstrated understanding of HR and payroll business processes within integrated, cross‑functional systems, including experience supporting systems implementations.
  • Proficiency with payroll systems and PC‑based applications; strong verbal and written communication skills; high attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and quality customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee end‑to‑end payroll operations to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing.
  • Manage the production and distribution of payroll outputs, including pay stubs, debit advices, payroll registers, and Records of Employment.
  • Administer employee and officer deductions and ensure timely remittance to external vendors, agencies, and charities.
  • Ensure payroll compliance through effective controls, reconciliation processes, and adherence to legislative and organizational requirements.
  • Resolve payroll-related inquiries from employees, officers, pensioners, ministry units, and divisional leadership with accuracy and professionalism.
  • Coordinate year‑end payroll activities, including reporting, reconciliations, and statutory filings.
  • Prepare payroll accounting documentation and support internal, external, and regulatory audits.
  • Produce payroll-related financial reports, analyses, and salary data for public service disclosures and annual financial statements.
  • Develop payroll and budget worksheets to support financial planning, forecasting, and decision-making.
  • Contribute to special projects and continuous improvement initiatives while performing additional assigned duties as required.
