About The Position

This is a senior, hands-on role where you will own, scale, and modernize the core engine that moves customer money. You will be responsible for understanding settlement flows, pulling SQL, reconciling variance, communicating with banks, and writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). You will set the strategy and execute it, with the goal of building a team over time. This role is an onsite position at the downtown Toronto office.

Requirements

  • 7+ years in payment operations, financial operations, or treasury, with significant experience in a FinTech, payments company, bank, or processor.
  • Experience running reconciliations and money movement at scale.
  • Strong SQL skills for data analysis and reporting.
  • Experience building or rebuilding a payment operations function, including SOPs, controls, tooling, and vendor relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with Engineering and Product on automation initiatives.
  • Comfortable being the most senior person in the room on payment operations topics.
  • Strong judgment under ambiguity; ability to be calm, decisive, and document reasoning.
  • Clear, direct communication skills, capable of briefing executives and writing clear SOPs.

Responsibilities

  • Own daily execution of payment settlements across internal accounts, banking partners, network providers, and customers.
  • Investigate and resolve payment exceptions, failures, and returns; build playbooks and tooling for faster resolution.
  • Forecast and monitor liquidity and projected settlement volumes.
  • Own the chargeback process end-to-end, including dispute handling, ledger impact, and root-cause analysis.
  • Serve as the primary operational point of contact for banking partners and payment processors.
  • Set and enforce standards for timely, accurate, and compliant customer money movement.
  • Run daily three-way reconciliations between internal ledgers, processor reports, and bank statements, identifying and resolving variances.
  • Design and operate internal controls to safeguard company and customer funds.
  • Produce weekly and monthly operational reports, KPIs, and dashboards.
  • Partner with Finance on month-end close activities.
  • Act as the operational point person for audits and external stakeholder information requests related to ledgers and money movement.
  • Build and maintain SOPs for all payment workflows.
  • Identify manual inefficiencies and partner with Engineering, Data, and Product to automate them.
  • Approve the design of new payment features and operational tools, ensuring production readiness.
  • Set the roadmap for payment operations at Loop for the next 12 and 24 months.
  • Ensure payment operations acts as a force multiplier for the business.
