About The Position

The Payloads Organization within Boeing Commercial Aircraft (BCA) is seeking a Payloads Design Engineer (Associate or Mid-Level) to join the SoCal Payloads Core team in Long Beach, CA. The BCA Payloads Core team is responsible for the development, design and integration of interiors products including Cargo Handling systems into new and existing BCA Production/Out of Production aircraft and engages with Customer Support in response to program and customer requirements. The selected candidate will have a statement of work that spans the product lifecycle: supporting customer configuration development, supplier engagement, validating and verifying design requirements, integrating business needs, supporting the product through the production and certification processes and assisting with customer product support issues. Your work will include the need to interface with other members of project engineering, production engineering, program/product teams, management, and technical staff to define and implement engineering solutions. You will be able to combine the expertise and resources of the interiors organization to certify and deliver the best interiors products within the industry. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences)
  • 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
  • Successful candidates for this job must satisfy the Company’s Conflict of Interest (COI) assessment process.
  • To meet U.S. export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Nice To Haves

  • 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
  • Experience with Payloads/Interior commodities and systems
  • Experience in aerospace interiors, materials and properties, design criteria and release processes
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to think out-of-the-box, flexibility and openness to new ideas and concepts; speak up within group settings and strong technical presentation skills
  • Ability to collaborate and work with cross functional teams
  • Willingness to expand into technical areas without prior experience
  • Working knowledge of ETAC, CATIA V5, ENOVIA, PDM, REDARS and IVT is desired
  • Working knowledge of Boeing processes including CR/CNs, PRRs, SRPs, COSPs
  • Demonstrates good problem-solving skills and critical thinking

Responsibilities

  • Assists to develop, integrate and document structural and interior payload system requirements to establish the system design
  • Develops, maintains and modifies basic structural and interior payload system and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle
  • Performs tests to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications
  • Assists with supplier development, test and production activities and coordination with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals
  • Supports investigation of emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements
