About The Position

Spirit AeroSystems, Inc., a subsidiary of The Boeing Company, is seeking Associate and Mid-Level Industrial Engineers for their Wichita, KS team. This role is crucial for optimizing manufacturing systems in the production of advanced aerostructures for Boeing and other aerospace partners. The Industrial Engineer will focus on enhancing production efficiency, analyzing workflow and capacity, and implementing data-driven solutions to improve safety, quality, cost, and delivery performance. This position involves collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, and program teams to evaluate processes, balance production lines, and develop scalable solutions for high-rate aerospace manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program
  • 2+ years of related industrial engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of related work experience, preferably in an aircraft or aerospace manufacturing environment (for Mid-Level)
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt certification.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or automated layout design software.
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP).
  • Familiarity with aerospace quality systems (e.g., AS9100) and regulatory requirements is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes and designs sequence of operations and workflow to improve efficiencies in plant facilities, equipment layouts, and material handling systems.
  • Establishes methods for maximum utilization of production facilities and personnel while optimizing product flow using Value Stream Mapping (VSM).
  • Conducts studies pertaining to cost control, cost reduction, inventory control, and waste elimination utilizing Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Conducts time and motion studies to develop, maintain, and provide accurate time standards and standard work instructions to the shop floor.
  • Utilizes analytical skills and simulation tools for capacity analysis, tool and equipment utilization, constraint management (Theory of Constraints), and line balancing.
  • Partners with EHS to establish ergonomic and accident prevention measures through workplace design and manage technical training programs for production personnel.
  • Collaborates with facilities engineers in macro and micro layout planning, facility design, and the implementation of 5S methodologies.
  • Develops and tracks KPIs regarding labor efficiency, machine utilization, and production throughput to drive data-based decision-making.
  • Utilizes advanced Excel skills including Power Query, Power Pivot, VBA/Macros, complex formulas (XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH), and dynamic dashboards for data analysis.
