About The Position

Western Engineering Contractors Inc. is seeking a qualified Paving Foreman/Superintendent for our Paving Division for full-time employment. Western Engineering is a local contractor based in Loomis, performing work in the greater Sacramento area and surrounding foothills. With over 40 years of experience, Western Engineering is a reputable company rooted in the industry.

Requirements

Experienced in blueprint reading, elementary surveying, construction methods, and supervision
Provides full support to foremen
Effective communicator in English
Strong planning, training, and motivational skills
Ability to monitor financial performance and manage change
Knowledgeable in construction equipment
Familiar with local site conditions, agency standards, local vendors, and subcontractors
Knowledge of OSHA and other safety regulations
Understanding of specific agency specifications and requirements in area of expertise
Aware of employee certification requirements in area of expertise
Has run and supervised an asphalt paving crew with the use of transfer and super dumps
Ten (10) or more years of construction experience encompassing grading and asphalt paving.
Five (5) or more years of construction supervision experience.
High school diploma.

Nice To Haves

BA degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred.
Mainline paving with bottom dumps a plus.

Responsibilities

Study specifications and plan procedures to determine timing, staffing requirements, and equipment/tools needed for the project.
Consult with Estimators on bids.
Review contracts and purchase orders.
Consult with Project Managers on cost-to-complete estimates, billing support documentation, and schedules as needed.
Visit job sites regularly to effectively direct, coordinate, and support foremen and crews in the division.
Ensure foremen understand and operate within the project budget.
Inform Project Managers of any changes occurring in the field.
Inspect work in progress to ensure quality and conformity to plans.
Work safely and maintain a safe workplace in compliance with OSHA and other regulatory agencies.
Ensure compliance with submittments, client schedules, and proper scheduling of WEC vendors.
Provide technical expertise and make decisions that protect and benefit both the company and the customer.
Review and approve vendor and subcontractor invoices prior to payment.
Ensure field teams process Daily Extra Work Reports (DEWRs) in a timely manner.
Participate in the overall management and planning activities of the company.
Maintain regular client contact and document significant verbal communications.
Attend bi-weekly scheduling meetings, departmental meetings, and weekly foremen’s or project meetings at job sites as needed.
Interact effectively and professionally with other employees and customers.
