About The Position

SP+ is an artificial intelligence company for the real world, using computer vision to enable checkout-free parking experiences. We are the largest parking network in America, with over 23,000 employees powering mobility at over 4,000 locations across North America and Europe. This role involves coordinating and physically transporting patients into and within the hospital, safely transferring and accompanying patients to and from clinical and support areas utilizing wheelchairs and other mobility devices. The role requires professional communication with patients, co-workers, and healthcare staff.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to hospital staff, patients and other employees of the company.
  • Ability to effectively respond positively and professionally to patient and/or hospital staff requests, inquiries and/or complaints.
  • Employees will be required to maintain a neat and clean appearance and be in complete uniform at all times.
  • May be required to meet immunization or health screening requirements through providing personal records or undergoing testing and, if required, further immunizations or tests.
  • Successful completion of SP+ New Hire and Patient Transporter (PT) courses including on-the-job demonstration of skills.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but standard written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment; able to deal with change, delays or unexpected events.
  • Must be able to run, walk, and sit for a long period of time.
  • Must be able to push and pull (on wheelchair) 100 to 350 pounds, frequently over a considerable distance.
  • Requires a full range of motion.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to push or pull heavy objects using up to 75 pounds of force.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior patient transport or healthcare experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Transports patients by moving them to and from wheelchairs and assisting/lifting patients on and off beds.
  • Properly and safely transports and secures patients, secures IVs, drainage tubes, etc. with assistance from the nursing personnel.
  • Uses wheelchairs to carry out the essential duties of the position.
  • Demonstrates competency in transporting all specific age groups.
  • Ensures the safe, timely and accurate transport of patients to their destination.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, nursing personnel, clinicians, technicians or reception and dispatch.
  • Ensures the comfort of the patient by being attentive. Offers blankets, checks modesty and only engages in appropriate conversation involving patients.
  • Never transports patients in severe pain.
  • Alerts nursing staff immediately to any signs of patient distress.
  • Routinely inspects wheelchairs and immediately reports equipment malfunction.
  • Complies with regulatory agency standards, including federal, state and JCAHO.
  • Adheres to facility and patient confidentiality in accordance with stated policy and HIPAA requirements.
  • Utilizes proper and safe patient handling techniques.
  • Collects wheelchair transport equipment and returns them to the appropriate storage areas.
  • Demonstrates proper use of the patient transport tracking system.
  • Uses appropriate infection control procedures including sanitizing wheelchair transport equipment.
  • Readily seeks to increase job knowledge and participates in continuous training.
  • Demonstrates SP+ service standards for exceptional patient, family and coworker experiences.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
