About The Position
The Patient Transporter facilitates internal hospital patient moves and is responsible for safely, promptly, and accurately transporting patients, medical equipment, and patient-related items to their destinations. The role uses wheelchairs and other approved rolling equipment, secures patients and relevant medical lines, and works with nursing personnel, clinicians, technicians, reception, and dispatch. Patient comfort, privacy, safety, and confidentiality are central to the position.
Requirements
- No prior experience is required.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position satisfactorily, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Responsibilities
- Safely transport patients, secure IVs and drainage tubes, and secure patients during transport.
- Use wheelchairs and other approved rolling stock to transport patients.
- Demonstrate competency in transporting patients across all specified age groups.
- Transport patients to their destinations safely, promptly, and accurately using the requested equipment.
- Communicate effectively with nursing personnel, clinicians, technicians, reception, and dispatch.
- Attend to patient comfort by offering blankets, checking modesty, and engaging only in appropriate conversation.
- Do not transport patients in severe pain.
- Immediately alert nursing staff to signs of patient distress or equipment malfunction.
- Maintain equipment and report equipment requiring repair.
- Comply with regulatory agency standards, including federal, state, and JCAHO requirements.
- Follow facility confidentiality and patient-rights policies, including HIPAA policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
