About The Position

The Patient Support Technician performs routine assistive tasks to help the Registered Nurse meet patients’ basic needs as unlicensed assistive personnel. The role supports patients with personal hygiene, nutrition and feeding, ambulation, elimination, and monitoring vital signs. The technician documents patient vital signs and reports abnormal values to the Registered Nurse. This is a non-management position reporting to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive, in the Surgical Specialty department at Baptist Hospital.

Requirements

• Completion of a Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Technician, Medical Assistant, or Nursing Fundamentals course.
• Successfully complete Prisma Health unit secretary course and training within 90 days of hire.
• In lieu of school verification of a nursing assistant training course, current or former CNA certification may be accepted as proof of completed state-required training at hire.
• In lieu of school verification of a medical assistant training course, current or former CMA certification may be accepted as proof of completed required training at hire.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous nursing assistant, medical assistant, or related experience preferred.
• One year of hospital clerical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with personal hygiene, including bathing, washing hair, brushing teeth and hair, and washing hands.
• Assist patients with nutrition and feeding, including feeding, drinking, and setting up meal trays.
• Assist patients with ambulation, including dangling, walking, using assistive devices, and implementing fall prevention measures under the Registered Nurse’s direction.
• Assist patients with elimination, including using the bathroom, bedside commode, bedpan, or urinal; accurately monitor inputs and outputs.
• Complete and document patient vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, heart rate, and oxygenation via pulse oximetry or ETC02; report abnormal values to the Registered Nurse.
• Complete the Prisma Health unit secretary course and training within 90 days of hire.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
