About The Position

The Patient Support Technician performs routine assistive tasks to help the Registered Nurse meet patients’ basic needs. This is an unlicensed assistive personnel role in the Medical Nursing - 10 E department at Richland Hospital. The position works the day shift at 5 Medical Park Rd Richland. The role is non-management and reports to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Requirements

• Completion of a Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Tech, Medical Assistant, or Nursing Fundamentals course.
• Candidates must successfully complete Prisma Health unit secretary course and training within 90 days of hire.
• In lieu of school verification of a nursing assistant training course, current or former CNA certification may be accepted as proof of completed state-required training at the time of hire.
• In lieu of school verification of a medical assistant training course, current or former CMA certification may be accepted as proof of completed required training at the time of hire.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous nursing assistant, medical assistant, or related experience.
• One year of hospital clerical experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with personal hygiene, including bathing, washing hair, brushing teeth and hair, and washing hands.
• Assist patients with nutrition and feeding, including feeding, drinking, and setting up meal trays.
• Assist patients with ambulation, including dangling, walking, walking with an assistive device, and implementing fall prevention measures under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
• Assist patients with elimination, including getting to the bathroom and using a bedside commode, bedpan, or urinal; accurately monitor inputs and outputs.
• Complete and document patient vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, heart rate, and oxygenation via pulse oximetry or ETCO2; report abnormal values to the Registered Nurse.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Successfully complete the Prisma Health unit secretary course and training within 90 days of hire.
