About The Position

The Patient Sitter is responsible for continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients through a non-recording video monitoring system. This role involves observing potentially life-threatening risk behaviors exhibited by suicidal patients, verbally redirecting patient behaviors, and notifying nursing staff for assistance. The sitter also monitors the patient environment for safety hazards and maintains strict patient confidentiality. Participation in hand-off information and patient behavior issues to the next shift is crucial, as is providing proper notification and hand-off when a patient is cleared from suicidal watch. All other related assigned duties are also part of the role.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED Required
Basic computer skills
Basic Microsoft Office skills necessary
Able to multi-task and prioritize to meet competing deadlines
Ability to extend and maintain discretion and confidentiality when working with patients
Talking and hearing is essential for communicating with patients and nursing staff.
Physical demands include sitting for prolonged periods of time, walking, and standing

Responsibilities

Continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients by acting as a 1-1 physical sitter
Observe potentially life threatening risk behaviors exhibited by suicidal patients; Verbally redirect patient behaviors while notifying nursing staff for assistance
Monitor patient environment for potential safety hazards, including but not limited to sharp objects and items that could potentially be used for harm
Maintain strict patient confidentiality at all times
Participate in hand-off information and patient behavior issues to the next shift. Provide proper notification and hand off of information when patient is cleared from suicidal watch
