About The Position

UW Medical Center-Montlake - Admitting Department has an outstanding opportunity to hire a Patient Services Specialist 2. This role is responsible for facilitating patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, and performing clerical duties in support of the unit. The position is part of a team committed to the UW Medicine mission where Patients Are First.

Requirements

• High School graduation or equivalent
• One year of healthcare or administrative experience
• Equivalent education/experience may substitute for required qualifications

Responsibilities

• Register patients and verify, collect, and update demographic and financial information
• Determine eligibility for care, assign payor plans, and verify insurance benefits for emergency and planned services
• Obtain authorizations and necessary signatures for consents; complete Medicare as a Secondary Payor forms; collect co-pays or patient liabilities
• Respond to patient inquiries and provide directions within the medical center
• Assist patients and families via phone and in person while maintaining confidentiality of patient information
• Triage phone calls to clinical staff and gather necessary info for return calls or emergencies
• Communicate with patients, providers, and external agencies regarding financial arrangements, protocols, billing procedures, and insurance coverage
• Assist patients in completing paperwork, including insurance forms
• May coordinate death procedures and handle documentation
• Participate in testing or implementing new systems or processes
• Advocate for patients and families, helping them connect with appropriate staff and safeguarding privacy

Benefits

• Evening Shift Differential Pay: $1.75 per hour
• Night Shift Differential Pay: $2.50 per hour
• Weekend Pay Differential: $2.00 per hour
