About The Position

UW Medical Center-Northwest Financial Admitting has an outstanding opportunity for a Patient Services Specialist 2 to join us in our Admitting department. This is a 100% FTE (28 hours per week) Day Shift position, working Monday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 5:00 am to 3:30 pm. The role performs a variety of admitting department tasks including patient registration, general clerical support, customer service, and operating the switchboard. The successful candidate will be part of a team dedicated to supporting UW Medicine where Patients Are First.

Requirements

High School graduation or equivalent
One year of healthcare, administrative, or customer service experience
An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirement

Responsibilities

Greets, directs, and assists all patients and visitors in a friendly, welcoming, and professional manner.
Ensures patients understand admission policies and procedures.
Coordinates obtaining interpreters for patients as appropriate.
Performs admitting or pre-admitting procedures upon arrival of patients to include registering patients; verifying, collecting, and updating demographic and financial information by appropriate means.
Determines eligibility for care by use of payer web portals and phone inquiries.
Collects co-payment or other patient liabilities.
Responds to patient questions; provides directions to specified areas such as clinics, units, ancillary and support departments, parking and eating facilities.
Assists patients in accessing hospital and community services by consulting and making referrals to appropriate resources.
Promptly and courteously answers all calls through the Medical Center switchboard.
Implements emergency procedures calmly, efficiently, and accurately.
Assists in orienting and training new staff as assigned.
