This role also involves filing insurance claims, assisting patients with insurance forms, and processing unpaid accounts by contacting patients and third-party payers. The Patient Services Representative acts as a liaison between the patient and medical support staff, greets patients and visitors courteously, checks in patients, verifies and updates insurance information, and obtains necessary signatures. They assist patients with ambulatory difficulties, maintain the appointment book, and provide front office phone support. The role involves screening visitors, responding to routine requests for information, gathering and coding outpatient charges, processing payments, researching address verification, and helping to process mail and statements. The Patient Services Representative acquires billing information, performs cashiering functions, prepares daily cash deposits, receives payments, and maintains required records. They work with patients to secure pre-payment sources or financial agreements and assist with outpatient coding and error resolution. This position processes edits and customer service requests for resolution within specified time frames, identifies trends, communicates problems to management, and updates patient account databases. They maintain and update physician schedules, schedule surgeries and appointments, answer questions regarding appointments and testing, and assemble patient charts. The role involves updating patient profiles, overseeing the waiting area, coordinating patient movement, and assisting patients with questions on insurance claims, disability benefits, home health care, and medical equipment. They process benefit correspondence and insurance forms, assist patients in completing forms for hospitalization or surgical pre-certification, and follow up with insurance companies to ensure coverage approval. The Patient Services Representative posts actions, maintains patient account records, answers account-related questions, confirms workers’ compensation claims, prepares disability claims, and follows up on claim payments. They maintain files, research information for outpatient billing, code procedures and diagnoses, and key charge information into the system. The role involves processing and distributing billings, pulling and filing charts, picking up reports and correspondence, checking for misfiled charts, maintaining orderly files, purging obsolete records, and destroying outdated records. They create new patient charts, repair damaged charts, assist in locating and filing records, and work with other staff to route charts. The Patient Services Representative collects payments at time of service, reviews accounts for timely payment, performs collection actions, evaluates patient financial status, and establishes payment plans. They review accounts for potential assignment to a collection agency and identify and resolve patient billing complaints. The role involves participating in educational activities, gathering and verifying superbills, entering charge and payment information, and printing daily reports. They back up and close computer files daily and register new patients, updating financial information while maintaining strict confidentiality.
