This Patient Service Specialist role, within the Hem/SCT Registration organization, provides patient service before, during, or after appointments with minimal guidance. The specialist facilitates efficient workflow, supports technology use, and engages in effective communication, particularly navigating complex patient cases involving multiple services or coordination with external facilities/providers. The Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, where this role is situated, is a leader in immunotherapy and cellular therapy for cancer, performing a high volume of stem cell transplants nationally. These cellular therapies, including stem cell transplantation, are crucial for treating blood cancers and other life-threatening diseases by restoring the body's ability to grow healthy blood cells.

Requirements

  • 1 year of relevant work experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Intermediate Customer Service skills
  • Novice Patient Scheduling skills
  • Novice Patient Documentation skills
  • Novice Medical Terminology & Documentation skills
  • Fundamental Awareness of Appointment & Procedural Scheduling

Responsibilities

  • Proficiently performs all Associate Patient Service Specialist job responsibilities.
  • Schedules appointments and procedures through clinical communication, work queues, and patient portal messages.
  • Manages registration and patient work queues.
  • Coordinates with patients and/or outside facilities to ensure all pre-appointment orders and consults have been received and ready to view prior to patient visit.
  • Communicates with patients through the patient portal using critical decision making to route appropriately as applicable.
