The Patient Service Representative (PSR) in Operations is responsible for creating the initial electronic health record, ensuring patient safety through positive identification, and managing patient registration. This role involves collecting and verifying demographic, guarantor, and insurance information, as well as discussing and collecting co-pays and other patient financial responsibilities. The PSR must maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, understand insurance basics, and know which plans Advocate Health contracts with. They are also responsible for obtaining necessary patient signatures, potentially scheduling appointments, providing information about test preparations and procedures, and educating patients on the patient portal. The role requires creating a welcoming environment, answering phones, and maintaining positive public relations. Additionally, the PSR may be involved in scanning documents, managing electronic health record work queues, and assisting with training. This position operates in a normal office environment with significant patient and public contact, and may be exposed to ill or contagious patients.
