This role is crucial for preventing duplicate medical records, ensuring patient safety, and facilitating timely billing. The PSR registers patients, verifies demographic and insurance information, collects co-pays, and maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA. They must understand insurance basics, AAH contracts, and financial obligations, referring patients to Financial Advocates when necessary. The position also involves adhering to government regulations such as HIPAA, EMTALA, and others, obtaining required signatures, and potentially scheduling appointments, including virtual and procedural ones. Additionally, the PSR provides detailed information about test preparations and check-in procedures, performs visit closure tasks, and maintains positive public relations with patients, families, and staff. They are expected to proactively communicate customer service issues and process improvement opportunities, creating a welcoming environment. Responsibilities include answering phones, screening calls, taking messages, and assisting patients with various needs like transportation and interpreter services. Advanced duties may include training new staff, patient communications, participating in committees, supporting quality improvement projects, and editing clinician schedules. The PSR also monitors and works assigned electronic health record work queues.
