The Patient Service Representative (PSR) in the Primary Care Clinic is responsible for creating the initial electronic health record, ensuring patient safety through proper identification, and managing patient registration. This role involves collecting and verifying demographic and insurance information, discussing and collecting co-pays, and maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA. The PSR must understand insurance basics, Advocate Health Care (AAH) contracts, and financial obligations, referring patients to Financial Advocates when necessary. They also ensure compliance with various government regulations and obtain required patient signatures. Additionally, the role may involve scheduling appointments, providing patient education on preparations and procedures, performing visit closures, and assisting patients with the patient portal. The PSR is expected to create a welcoming environment, handle routine requests, answer telephones, and maintain positive public relations with patients, families, and staff. Proactive communication with management regarding customer service and process improvement is essential. Assistance may be provided for transportation, directions, wheelchairs, and interpreter services. Responsibilities may also include e-scanning documents, managing faxes and electronic health record messages, and monitoring work queues. The role may also support department leadership with orientation and training.
