About The Position

The Patient Service Representative (PSR) is the first point of contact for patients and visitors at Mercy Clinic Gastroenterology. The PSR ensures that the patient experience is positive and seamless by managing front desk operations and workflows. This role involves greeting and registering patients, managing check-in/check-out processes, handling phone calls, performing clerical tasks, scheduling appointments and procedures, monitoring provider schedules, maintaining accurate patient records, and managing the daily cash drawer. The PSR must also handle patient concerns professionally, support clinic initiatives, and maintain a safe and clean reception area.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Customer service experience preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance, and billing processes
  • Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer skills, including accurate data entry
  • Strong customer service skills with a patient‑focused approach
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with privacy policies
  • Adaptable, professional, and able to work well under pressure
  • Effective problem‑solving and issue resolution skills

Responsibilities

  • Greet and register patients; verify identity and manage check‑in/check‑out
  • Answer phones and perform clerical tasks including Epic charting, scanning, faxing, and document handling
  • Schedule appointments, procedures, and testing; provide timely estimates and Good Faith Estimates
  • Monitor provider schedules, communicate delays, and coordinate with staff to ensure efficient clinic flow
  • Maintain accurate registration, EHRs, and assigned work queues
  • Handle patient concerns professionally and escalate as needed
  • Manage daily cash drawer, accounts receivable tasks, and payment plans
  • Support EPIC updates, departmental initiatives, and clinic communications
  • Maintain a safe, clean reception area and adhere to safety, privacy, and infection control policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned
