The Scheduler is responsible for optimal workflow scheduling and coordination of hematology, oncology and non- oncologic ambulatory treatments according to department protocols which includes, coordination of appointments, telephone call management, confirm treatment orders are in EMR, and confirm authorization. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Appropriately schedule and or reschedule departmental treatments according to specific modality protocols and patient care requirements, maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines. Confirms completion and accuracy of provider's order in relation to requested appointment type and length for compliance/medical necessity and communicates discrepancies to provider office. Confirms all relevant patient information, including consent for treatment, scheduling chemotherapy education and all other relevant appointments. Obtains current, complete and accurate patient insurance information to ensure reimbursement. Update demographic and payer information as needed while speaking with patient. Call patients to schedule appointment based on order information. Coordinate multidisciplinary and interdepartmental appointments in conjunction with nursing to maintain seamless patient care such as cardiology, radiation oncology, BMT, research and radiology appointments. Provides office support to meet the unit needs. Function as a point person, interacting in a courteous manner with patients, patient families, providers, nurses, administrative staff internal and external to HHC in the coordination of patient care, such as but not limited to, answering questions, triaging calls, obtaining patient transport, required equipment and supplies, patient referrals, resolving registration and billing issues., etc.
