About The Position

The Nursing Resource Pool Patient Safety Attendant performs specific patient care activities as assigned by the patient's RN, considering age-specific, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs. This role involves working with high-risk suicide precaution patients and requires the attendant to remain with and directly observe the assigned patient at all times. Companions will arrange meal and break times with the patient's nurse to ensure continuous observation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • CPR or BLS Certification
  • Able to maintain professionalism and self-control in difficult or stressful conditions

Responsibilities

  • Setting up food tray and assisting with eating
  • Assisting patient with basic hygiene needs (bathing, brushing teeth)
  • Offering fluids
  • Accompanying patient on walks
  • Assisting patient to bathroom or chair
  • Providing diversionary activities
  • Replacing nasal cannula
  • Re-applying intermittent compression devices (ICDs or SCDs)
  • Remain with, and observe the assigned patient at all times
  • Ensure the patient is never unattended
