The Patient Safety Attendant in the Nursing Resource Pool/Float Pool performs specific patient care activities as assigned by the patient's RN, considering age-specific, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs. This role involves working with high-risk suicide precaution patients, requiring constant direct observation. The attendant will assist with food trays, basic hygiene, offering fluids, accompanying patients on walks, assisting with bathroom or chair transfers, providing diversionary activities, and replacing nasal cannulas or re-applying intermittent compression devices. Companions must arrange meal and break times with the patient's nurse to ensure the patient is never unattended.
