About The Position

The Patient Representative is responsible for ensuring patient safety by identifying the correct patient, recognizing special needs, and preparing isolation precautions for patients with infectious disease indicators. This role also involves providing excellent customer service to patients, families, staff, and external agencies by accurately completing patient registration, admission, and scheduling. The Patient Representative investigates and resolves customer requests, questions, or problems according to CCHMC policies and procedures, and contacts outside representatives for information or assistance. Maintaining patient confidentiality and safeguarding personal medical and financial information is crucial. The role also ensures compliance with regulatory agencies (JCAHO, CMS, ODH) by completing and authenticating necessary documents and questionnaires. Additionally, the Patient Representative supports the Revenue Cycle, Health Information Management, and Regulatory departments by ensuring accurate data, information, and forms are obtained and entered into the appropriate system, and communicates with management regarding system errors or recommendations for changes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • No directly related experience

  • Healthcare administrative experience; including patient scheduling and telephone-based patient support.
  • Experience using Epic

Responsibilities

  • Ensures patient safety by identifying the correct patient, identifying special needs and preparing isolation precautions for patients who have Infectious Disease indicators.
  • Provides assistance and services to patients, families, staff and external agencies in the accurate completion of patient registration, admission and scheduling.
  • Investigates and resolves customer requests, questions or problems according to CCHMC policies and procedures.
  • Contacts outside representatives to request information or assistance in resolving problems.
  • Maintains confidentiality, protects and safeguards patient/family personal medical and financial information at all times during collection, use and storage.
  • Access only information and records necessary to perform the responsibilities of the position.
  • Completes and authenticates all documents and questionnaires that ensure compliance with regulatory agencies (JCAHO, CMS, ODH).
  • Supports the Revenue Cycle, Health Information Management, and Regulatory by ensuring that the necessary data, information and forms are obtained and accurately entered into the appropriate system.
  • Talks to management to explain system errors or to recommend changes to the system.
