About The Position

The Patient Registration Specialist position at Baptist Health provides second shift registration coverage in the Emergency Department, including an every other weekend rotation. This role is crucial for ensuring accurate patient demographic and benefit information in the computer systems. Key responsibilities include pre-registration, registration, payer identification and verification, referral to financial counseling, and point of service collections. The specialist is also responsible for verifying benefits eligibility and limitations, coordinating benefits, and determining and collecting patient financial responsibility. A thorough understanding of regulatory requirements such as medical necessity determination, Medicare Secondary Payer completion and coordination of benefits, Important Message from Medicare issuance and signage, HIPAA, and EMTALA is essential. This position may have additional duties assigned that are within scope of the role. Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in healthcare or business-related field.
  • Bilingual capability (English/Spanish).
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a medical or hospital patient access or financial services environment.
  • Training experience.
  • Knowledge of government programs such as Medicare and Medicaid.

Responsibilities

  • Provide second shift registration coverage in the Emergency Department to include every other weekend rotation.
  • Perform pre-registration, registration, payer identification and verification, referral to financial counseling, and point of service collections.
  • Ensure that data gathered and entered to the computer system(s) of patient demographic and benefit information is accurate.
  • Verify benefits eligibility and limitations, coordination of benefits.
  • Determine and collect the patient's financial responsibility at the point of service.
  • Have an understanding of regulatory requirements (medical necessity determination, Medicare Secondary Payer completion and coordination of benefits, Important Message from Medicare issuance and signage, HIPAA, and EMTALA).
