About The Position

In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Patient Registration Clerk greets patients professionally and completes orderly, efficient, and accurate registrations. The role provides excellent customer service, supports the hospital’s public relations, and maintains confidentiality of records. The clerk exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times. The position is located at Marietta Memorial Hospital Campus in Marietta, Ohio, and is full time, with a 12-hour mid shift and 72 hours biweekly.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Typing, spelling, basic medical terminology, interpersonal skills, and familiarity with computers.
• Ability to accurately gather and interpret data related to patient registration.
• Ability to communicate with patients and family members in stressful situations.
• Ability to professionally represent the hospital to patients, physician offices, and family members.

Nice To Haves

• At least 2 years of experience in registration and/or scheduling in a hospital, medical office, or clinic setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe environment for patient care.
• Maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
• Accurately interpret written and verbal orders from physicians.
• Demonstrate appropriate use of AIDET when registering patients.
• Enter new patient data or verify existing records are up to date, confirm the completeness of the electronic health record, make changes as needed, and complete accurate registrations.
• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits for each patient.
• Collect patients’ out-of-pocket liabilities upfront and apply and reconcile daily point-of-service cash reports.
• Refer patient accounts to financial counselors when additional explanation or education is needed regarding out-of-pocket liabilities, payment plans, or related matters.
• Assume other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
