About The Position

This position is full time, 32 hours per week. It is an hourly rate, non-exempt, union position. The role involves various aspects of patient financial services, including account follow-up, billing support, financial counseling, payment arrangements, pre-collection activities, payroll deductions, liability billing, and direct patient support via in-person and telephone interactions. The position also requires departmental coverage and participation in quality improvement and emergency preparedness initiatives.

Requirements

  • Previous office experience.
  • Proficient use of typewrite (40 wpm), computers and calculators.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Able to establish priorities.
  • High school graduate.

Responsibilities

  • Self pay account follow up and patient billing support, including reviewing accounts for insurance information, payment arrangements, late charges, financial assistance eligibility, and researching missing or incomplete coverage information.
  • Patient financial counseling and payment arrangements, including explaining billing status, patient responsibility, and available payment options, establishing payment arrangements within policy parameters, and identifying accounts for financial assistance.
  • Pre-collect and early collection activity, screening accounts prior to bad debt collection placement.
  • Processing payroll deduction accounts, including preparing and sending authorization forms, setting up deductions, and forwarding documentation.
  • Liability billing follow-up, including identifying accounts requiring liability billing, sending releases, forwarding claims, and tracking liability accounts.
  • In-person patient payment support, receiving payments, answering billing questions, resolving account concerns, and assisting with payment arrangements.
  • Telephone support and issue resolution, serving as a primary resource for incoming patient billing calls, answering questions, resolving concerns, collecting payments, and routing issues.
  • Department coverage and cross-training support, including covering for the Patient Account Representative during absences, reviewing reports, making corrections, and processing financial assistance or charity care applications.
  • Quality improvement activities, including participating in the Hospital-wide Quality Improvement Program, supporting department-specific initiatives, recommending process improvements, and reporting quality issues.
  • Emergency preparedness participation, including planning, drills, and responding to disaster/emergency events within the scope of ability.
