The Patient Financial Navigator ensures each patient has a complete and accurate OSF medical record, including patient demographics, insurance coverage, responsible guarantor, and precise registration. The navigator helps patients understand the services they are receiving, their financial responsibilities, and expectations before and after service. They provide financial education to clarify estimated out-of-pocket expenses and explain bill-pay options. The role requires knowledge of payment alternatives, grants, programs, and other forms of assistance so patients can understand and navigate their financial options. The navigator determines a patient's payer source and obtains payer authorization when needed, including identifying whether services require authorization, referral, or pre-determination; whether a procedure is a covered benefit; and whether a payer is out of network. The navigator also assists patients with questions about existing bills or invoices. Clear, concise verbal and written communication is required when working with peers, supervisors, payors, physicians, patients, and other departments. Candidates must be in Illinois or Michigan. Training takes place at OSF Headquarters in Peoria. After 60 days of training, employees may transition to remote work, subject to satisfactory performance and progress. If performance expectations are not met within that timeframe, the transition to fully remote work may be delayed until proficiency is demonstrated. Expected pay is $20.21–$23.77 per hour; actual pay depends on experience, skills, and internal equity.
