The Patient & Equipment Transporter is responsible for lifting and transporting patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds, ensuring proper positioning and securing using correct body mechanics. This role also involves transporting other items such as patient belongings, specimens, carts, wheelchairs, and other equipment. The transporter must maintain patient comfort, follow all posted precaution signs, and immediately contact clinical staff regarding any changes in a patient's condition or issues with patient equipment. Verification of patient identification is crucial, and all assignments must be tracked using electronic software. Additionally, the transporter is responsible for collecting and returning equipment to proper holding areas, disinfecting and inspecting transport equipment, and reporting any equipment in need of repair. Maintaining patient confidentiality is paramount. The role may also include collecting patient equipment from soiled utility rooms and picking up/delivering patient medication (excluding controlled substances).
