The Patient & Equipment Transporter is responsible for lifting and transporting patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds, ensuring proper positioning and securing using correct body mechanics. This role also involves transporting other items such as patient belongings, specimens, carts, wheelchairs, and other equipment. The transporter must maintain patient comfort, follow all posted precaution signs, and immediately contact clinical staff regarding any changes in a patient's condition or issues with patient equipment during transport. A key responsibility is verifying correct patient identification and documenting transport activities using electronic software. The role also includes collecting and returning equipment, disinfecting and inspecting transport equipment, and maintaining confidentiality of patient information. Additionally, the transporter may be responsible for collecting patient equipment from soiled utility rooms and for the pick-up and delivery of patient medication (excluding controlled substances).
