About The Position

This is an in-person position at 8200 Walnut Hill Ln., Dallas, TX. The role involves utilizing technology for virtual patient observation and interventions to ensure safe patient care. The Patient Companion demonstrates competency in setting up and using virtual patient observation monitoring software, computer hardware, and communication devices. They collaborate with hospital unit nursing staff to optimize patient visibility and conduct positive patient identification. The role also involves assuring alarms are activated with appropriate settings and are sufficiently audible, maintaining continuous visual observation of multiple patients on a monitor, and redirecting patients promptly to maintain safety. A co-worker must monitor assigned patients during breaks or other temporary situations when continuous observation cannot be maintained. The position is part-time, 24 hours a week, with shifts from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent is required
  • 1 Year Experience in an patient care setting/role such as Nurse Aide's, Patient Care Tech, Monitor Tech, or other nursing support role is required
  • Basic computer skills, data entry required.
  • Proficient communication.
  • Use of hands, vision-color, hearing, speaking.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Organization and prioritization skills.
  • Manages stress appropriately.
  • Makes decisions under pressure.
  • Manages anger/fear/hostility/violence of others appropriately.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the technology required for virtual patient observation and interventions for safe patient care.
  • Demonstrates competency in the set-up and ongoing use of virtual patient observation monitoring software, computer hardware, and communication devices.
  • Collaborates with hospital unit nursing staff to set up camera to optimize patient visibility and conduct positive patient identification.
  • Assures alarms are activated with appropriate settings and are sufficiently audible.
  • Maintains continuous visual observation of multiple patients at one time on a monitor.
  • Assures a co-worker is monitoring assigned patients during breaks or other temporary situations when unable to maintain continuous observation (e.g., when engaged in two-way video call).
  • Redirects patients promptly to maintain patient safety.
