About The Position

This is an in-person position at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, a full-service hospital with 875 beds that has served the Dallas community and surrounding areas since 1966. The hospital specializes in cancer care, cardiology, neurosciences, women’s services, and emergency medicine. It is home to a renowned Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), a Comprehensive Stroke Center, and a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. The Patient Companion Virtual Care role is responsible for utilizing technology for virtual patient observation and interventions to ensure safe patient care. This involves setting up and using virtual patient observation monitoring software, computer hardware, and communication devices. The role also requires collaboration with hospital unit nursing staff to optimize patient visibility and conduct positive patient identification, ensuring alarms are activated and audible. The Patient Companion continuously observes multiple patients on a monitor, ensuring a co-worker monitors assigned patients during breaks or temporary situations. The role also involves redirecting patients promptly to maintain safety.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent is required
  • 1 Year Experience in an patient care setting/role such as Nurse Aide's, Patient Care Tech, Monitor Tech, or other nursing support role is required
  • Basic computer skills, data entry required.
  • Proficient communication.
  • Use of hands, vision-color, hearing, speaking.

  • Organization and prioritization skills.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the technology required for virtual patient observation and interventions for safe patient care.
  • Demonstrates competency in the set-up and ongoing use of virtual patient observation monitoring software, computer hardware, and communication devices.
  • Collaborates with hospital unit nursing staff to set up camera to optimize patient visibility and conduct positive patient identification.
  • Assures alarms are activated with appropriate settings and are sufficiently audible.
  • Maintains continuous visual observation of multiple patients at one time on a monitor; assures a co-worker is monitoring assigned patients during breaks or other temporary situations when unable to maintain continuous observation (e.g., when engaged in two-way video call).
  • Redirects patients promptly to maintain patient safety.
