About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) at KUMW ASC functions as an assistive person, responsible for protecting patients from injury, ensuring safe operation of equipment, and advocating for patient safety. This role involves direct patient care, including assisting with care needs, orienting patients to the environment, maintaining patient comfort, and assisting with transfers. The PCT must also handle specimens according to policy, adhere to standard precautions, and perform interventions to prevent infection. They are responsible for notifying the RN of any changes in patient status, providing accurate hand-off reports, and documenting care. Additionally, the PCT monitors vital signs, recognizes emergencies, and prepares equipment. This position requires effective communication and collaboration within a multidisciplinary team, participation in quality improvement initiatives, and professional growth. The PCT acts as a patient advocate, maintaining privacy and confidentiality, and must comply with all facility policies, regulatory standards, and professional guidelines. They also participate in team meetings, training, and demonstrate fiscal responsibility.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent
  • Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) course within 90 days from employment or documentation of current BLS certification.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology

Nice To Haves

  • One year of medical assistant/nursing assistant/patient care technician preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with facility policies and procedures.
  • Function as an assistive person by protecting the patient from injury, demonstrating safe operation of equipment, speaking up with safety concerns, handling specimens according to policy, adhering to standard precautions, performing interventions to protect the patient from infection, assembling supplies and equipment, assisting patients with care needs, optimizing opportunities to enhance flow and efficiency, orienting patients to the environment, maintaining patient normothermia, assisting with patient transfers, assisting in environmental cleaning, protecting patient’s rights, dignity, and privacy, providing age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice, and complying with Universal Protocol and facility site validation and time-out policy.
  • Notify the RN of any observed changes in patient’s status and responses.
  • Provide accurate, concise, and pertinent hand-off report to other teammates regarding the patient’s condition and response to care.
  • Document the episode of care accurately, timely, completely, and legibly.
  • Monitor vital signs and recognize emergencies and notify the Registered Nurse.
  • Clean and prepare equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions for use.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills with members of the team and other stakeholders.
  • Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team in patient care.
  • Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects.
  • Participate in the performance appraisal process.
  • Use problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships.
