About The Position

The Patient Care Technician works in the Emergency Department and performs basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision. The technician supports doctors, nurses, and other medical staff in carrying out patient care plans, assists with patient observation and data gathering, prepares patients for examinations and treatment, collects specimens, and sets up and operates medical equipment. The role also includes transporting patients, maintaining accurate medical records, and keeping the department clean, organized, and supplied in accordance with infection control standards. Full-time day shifts are available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at UAB St. Vincent's East in Trussville, Alabama.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
BLS Provider certification obtained within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.

Nice To Haves

Completion of technician education in a specific area or specialty, such as EMT-Basic, EMT-Paramedic, or Patient Care Technician.

Responsibilities

Assist doctors, nurses, and other medical staff in implementing patient care plans by performing clinical procedures and other tasks within scope of practice.
Assist with patient observation, gather data, and identify patient care needs.
Document patient information accurately in medical records.
Prepare patients for examination and treatment.
Collect blood, urine, stool, and other specimens for laboratory testing.
Set up and operate medical equipment needed for patient care.
Help transport patients within the hospital.
Maintain cleanliness and organization in the Emergency Department and follow infection control standards.
Replenish supplies and ensure necessary equipment is available.
Perform other duties as assigned.
