PCT- Patient Care Technician - Emergency Department - PRN
About The Position
The Patient Care Technician works in the Emergency Department at UAB St. Vincent's St. Clair in Pell City, Alabama, on a PRN rotating schedule. Under supervision, the technician performs basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities, supporting patients with mobility, personal care, and activities of daily living. The role also involves reporting and documenting patient condition changes, maintaining patient rooms and medical equipment, and performing designated technical care duties as directed by nursing staff. UAB St. Vincent’s is part of UAB Medicine and provides healthcare through five hospitals and numerous clinics. Requirements
- BLS Provider certification obtained within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
- High school diploma equivalency or one year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.
Responsibilities
- Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
- Assist patients with ambulation, including to a recliner, bathroom, or hallway, and help dismissed patients get safely to their vehicles.
- Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living.
- Report findings or changes in patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff and document necessary records.
- Keep patient rooms clean and orderly and maintain medical equipment.
- Perform technical patient care duties as directed by the staff nurse, including oxygen setup, Foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection, and EKGs.
- Obtain and record vital signs, weight, and inputs and outputs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
