About The Position

The Patient Care Technician works in the Emergency Department at UAB St. Vincent's Clanton in Chilton, Alabama. Under supervision, the technician performs basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities and assists medical staff with implementing each patient’s plan of care by completing procedures and other tasks within scope of practice. The role includes observing patients, collecting and documenting information, preparing patients for examination and treatment, collecting specimens, operating medical equipment, transporting patients, and maintaining a clean, organized department. Available schedule: PRN rotating.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Obtain BLS Provider certification within 1 month (30 days) of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of technician education in a specific area or specialty, such as EMT-Basic, EMT-Paramedic, or Patient Care Technician (PCT).

Responsibilities

• Assist doctors, nurses, and other medical staff in implementing each patient’s plan of care by performing clinical procedures and other tasks within scope of practice.
• Assist with patient observation, gather data, and identify patient care needs.
• Accurately document patient information in medical records.
• Prepare patients for examination and treatment.
• Collect blood, urine, stool, and other specimens for laboratory testing.
• Set up and operate medical equipment needed for patient care.
• Help transport patients within the hospital.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization in the Emergency Department while adhering to infection control standards.
• Replenish supplies and ensure necessary equipment is readily available.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
