About The Position

The Patient Care Technician works in the Delnor Cardiac Telemetry Unit and performs basic patient care activities under the supervision of an RN. The role reflects Northwestern Medicine’s mission, vision, and values and follows its Code of Ethics, Corporate Compliance Program, applicable policies and procedures, and regulatory and accreditation standards. This full-time day position works three 12-hour shifts, 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., with every other Saturday and Sunday and rotating holidays required. The role is 36 hours per week (0.9 FTE).

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Current and active certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician, or enrollment as a nursing student who has completed one semester of clinical work.
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).

Nice To Haves

Phlebotomy experience.
Graduate of an accredited Nursing Assistant program or graduate of a phlebotomy course.

Responsibilities

Perform basic nursing care activities delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, measuring blood glucose, and recording intake and output.
Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, and eating.
Report abnormal findings or changes in patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
Help keep patient rooms clean and orderly.
Use flexibility, organization, multitasking, and critical thinking to prioritize and complete unit work as the needs of the unit, patients, and staff change, including in stressful situations.
Serve as a liaison between patient care units and other patient-related departments.
Answer telephone, intercom, and call lights politely, use appropriate telephone etiquette, and communicate information to appropriate staff, family, or patients.
Manage overall unit workflow with the charge RN and/or assistant manager as needed.
Perform pre-census and validate daily admission, discharge, and census lists as needed.
