About The Position

Performs assigned patient care and observation duties under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or LPN. This includes cleaning patient rooms, operating clinical equipment, assisting with emergencies and procedures, collecting and transporting specimens, and completing necessary forms. The role involves communicating with patients, families, and the care team, maintaining competencies, and promoting a supportive and healing environment. The technician will assist in emergency situations, ensure patient comfort and hygiene, and comply with safety and infection control standards. Specific tasks include assisting with various medical equipment like bag-valve-mask devices, oxygen, and suction, as well as operating equipment such as converter chairs, lifts, scales, and monitoring devices. Responsibilities also include recording patient intake and output, assisting with patient care activities like range of motion and transfers, observing and reporting patient status, transporting patients and specimens, contributing to patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, and assisting with postmortem care. The role utilizes technology for processes, participates in performance improvement programs, serves as a model for standards of care, and may be involved in research projects and orienting new staff.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • BLS required.
  • One year of direct patient care experience, OR
  • Successful completion of a nursing assistant training course
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license through State of Georgia, OR
  • Current enrollment in a nursing program and completion of 2 clinical rotations.

Responsibilities

  • Performs assigned patient care and observation duties under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or LPN.
  • Cleans the patient's room.
  • Operates various clinical equipment.
  • Helps with emergencies.
  • Assists with patient procedures.
  • Collects and transports patient specimens.
  • Completes applicable forms.
  • Communicates with patients, families and members of the patient care team.
  • Maintains hospital and unit-specific competencies.
  • Promotes a supportive and healing environment.
  • Assists in emergency situations as directed by an RN/LPN.
  • Ensures that prescribed measures related to hygiene, comfort, and rest are provided.
  • Complies with Standard Precautions guidelines, Infection Control procedures, and safety standards.
  • Assists in the use of bag-valve-mask device, anti-embolism stockings, pneumatic compression stockings, oxygen, suction equipment, incentive spirometer, emergency cart and bedside glucose monitoring machine.
  • Operates converter chair, lifts, scales, beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, non-invasive BP monitors, automatic thermometer, sphygmomanometer, pulse oximeter, and computers.
  • Records patient intake and output.
  • Assists RN/LPN in providing patient care according to individual needs by assisting with range of motion, ambulation, patient transfers, diet, elimination and hygiene.
  • Observes and reports significant or unusual information about the patient and environment to the RN/LPN and documents appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Transports patients and patient specimens throughout the hospital as needed.
  • Contributes to the completion of patient admission, transfer, and discharge.
  • Assists with postmortem care.
  • Utilizes appropriate technology to complete all related processes.
  • Participates in unit-based and system-wide Performance Improvement program as required by department leadership.
  • Serves as a resource/model through compliance with standards of care and with Department of Nursing and Hospital policies and procedures.
  • May participate in research projects impacting patient care areas.
  • Participates in the orientation of nursing support assistants to the unit.
  • Performs other related responsibilities as required.
