About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) reports to the Nurse Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the PCT performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. The Multi-Specialty Clinic at Health West is located at the MUSC Citadel Mall location in West Ashley. It is one clinic that serves multiple specialties throughout the week, including Allergy, Cardiology, Endocrinology, GI, Neurology and Nephrology. The team members (RNs, LPNs and Medical Assistants) work alongside the providers of each specialty to care for their patients.

Requirements

A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain.
Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting.
Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions.
Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required.
Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors.
Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs.
Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.

Responsibilities

Assist in maintaining patient safety and providing patient education.
Rooming patients, taking vitals and health history, documenting in an electronic medical record.
Measure vital signs (temp, pulse, resp, BP, pain, oxygen sat).
Measure height and weight.
Measure head, chest, and abdominal circumferences as appropriate to patient population.
Assist patient with nutritional, hygiene, elimination, ambulation and comfort related needs.
Prepare patients for exam and minor office procedures.
Perform clerical duties and ensure overall financial well-being of the clinic operations.
Schedule tests and procedures.
Utilizes correct communication tools and devices in providing care.
Efficiently establish a caring, trusting relationship with the caller and elicit information related to the reason for the call and current symptoms.
Uses medical equipment safely and effectively in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, policy, and/or clinic guidelines to ensure patient and staff safety.
Demonstrates excellent customer service by incorporating AIDET, MUSC Excellence, and Service Recovery.
