The Patient Care Tech performs reception, clerical & secretarial duties while functioning as the focal communication source in the work station. This role works closely with management, staff, families, physicians, other employees, and visitors. The Patient Care Tech assists to maintain the department in a constant state of readiness and an adequately stocked, well organized and clean department, and assists the nurses in providing the best care for our patients.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Possesses a service orientation
  • Able to take vital signs
  • BLS certification
  • Passes EKG testing yearly

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, clerical skills & basic data entry skills preferred

Responsibilities

  • Communicates with peers, other health team members, patients and visitors
  • Adaptable and flexible
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and self-start with minimal direction from nursing staff
  • Utilizes AIDET
  • Resolves problems and adapts easily to change

  • Uses computer for only purposes as assigned
  • Maintains the current medical record and database
  • Maintains up to date manuals/books
  • Performs clerical duties and operates various office equipment
  • Schedules patients for appointments
  • Greets patients and completes registration, confirms insurance eligibility and gathers paperwork necessary to ensure the clinic can bill for services
  • Communicates with patients in person and over the phone to ensure that their requests are recorded and transferred to the appropriate clinic staff, billing staff or administrative staff to handle
  • Sort incoming mail and faxes to appropriate staff
