About The Position

The Patient Care Technician works in the 3 South Med Surg department at UAB St. Vincent's Birmingham. Under supervision, the technician performs basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities, supports patients with mobility and daily living needs, reports and documents changes in patient condition, and completes technical care duties as directed by the staff nurse. The position is full-time nights, working three 12-hour shifts per week from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

Requirements

BLS Provider certification obtained within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
High school diploma equivalency or one year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.

Responsibilities

Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
Assist patients with ambulation, including movement to a recliner, the bathroom, or down the hall, and help dismissed patients reach their vehicles safely.
Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living.
Report findings or changes in patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
Document necessary records.
Keep patient rooms clean and orderly and maintain medical equipment.
Perform technical patient care duties as directed by the staff nurse, including oxygen setup, Foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection, and EKGs.
Obtain and record vital signs, weight, and intake and output.
Perform other duties as assigned.
