Patient Care Technician- PCT- Nights
About The Position
The Patient Care Technician works in the 3 West Med Surg department at UAB St. Vincent's Birmingham on a full-time night schedule from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. The role performs basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision, supporting patients with mobility, personal care, and activities of daily living. The technician reports changes in patients’ conditions to nursing staff, documents records, maintains clean and orderly patient rooms and medical equipment, and performs designated technical care tasks as directed by a staff nurse. UAB St. Vincent’s is part of UAB Medicine and provides health care through five hospitals and numerous clinics. Requirements
- High school diploma equivalency or one year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.
- BLS Provider certification obtained within one month (30 days) of the hire date or job transfer date; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
Responsibilities
- Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
- Assist patients with ambulation, including transfers to a recliner and walks to the bathroom or down the hall.
- Help dismissed patients get safely to their vehicles.
- Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living.
- Report findings or changes in patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
- Document necessary records.
- Keep patient rooms clean and orderly and maintain medical equipment.
- Perform technical patient care duties as directed by the staff nurse, including oxygen setup, Foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection, and EKGs.
- Obtain and record vital signs, weight, and inputs and outputs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
